In 2020, I started some seriously powerful new habits. I meditated for more than 365 in a row. And, I started a daily home yoga practice that has been going strong for more than a year.

You may want to stick with something for a year — or forever — but the fact is that 30-Day practices work because that’s at least how long it takes for a new habit to really stick.

Still, though. In our fast-paced world filled with distractions and busyness it can be hard to be consistent and stick with the things that are important to us.

Sticking to a 30 Day practice can be life changing — with a few mind tricks from the science of human flourishing.

3 Positive Psychology Tips to Help You Find Success in Your 30-Day Practice:

ONE PERCENT — Focus on incremental progress — such as improving by just 1 percent. If you were 1 percent more consistent in your writing, what would that look like? Consider this a small slice of a bigger goal or habit you want to form.

FOCUS ON THE FIRST 5 — Focus on starting small — such as the first precious 5 minutes. This gets you beyond your resistance. If you want to continue, great. But promise to do the thing for just 5 minutes. Everything beyond that is bonus.

CELEBRATE ALL PROGRESS — Celebrate your wins! Put an X on the calendar, a sticker or mark it on your Tada! list. Give yourself credit for every small, incremental progress you made. It adds up.

Consider what you want to master and set yourself up for success by making micro-progress rather than expecting overnight success.
